The way this works is the tape deck sends playback audio through the cable to the computer, and Audacity will record whatever audio is playing at that time. You will use the record button to record what plays on the tape deck. Right above the device toolbar is the transport toolbar, which has play, pause, stop, record, and skip to start and end buttons.
